Smith & Wesson

Smith & Wesson Holding Corp. announced in September it secured an order from the U.S. Army Tank Automotive Armament Command (TACOM) to provide 12,000 pistols to the Afghanistan Border Patrol. The order is valued at approximately $3.4 million and will ship in December 2005.

“This order for the U.S. Army represents a new milestone in establishing Smith & Wesson as an ongoing supplier of domestic, high-quality firearms to the military branch of the federal government. In addition, because our pistols are manufactured entirely in the United States, this order represents an opportunity to provide our government with products that help to support jobs here at home,” said Michael Golden, Smith & Wesson president and CEO.

In October, Smith & Wesson announced it secured an order to supply 5,530 pistols to the U.S. Army Security Assistance Command (USASC) Special Projects Office for shipment to the Afghanistan National Army.

The order is a follow-on to Smith & Wesson’s initial shipment of 4,850 pistols for the Afghanistan National Army earlier this year. The current order, valued at approximately $1.2 million, represents the third award to the company by the U.S. Army since April for security forces in Afghanistan. It brings the company’s total military orders in 2005 to over 22,500 pistols.

All the contracts are for the Smith & Wesson SW9VE, a 9mm, double-action-only, polymer-frame pistol.
